Project Idea
Fixed radio telescopes face challenges in signal tracking due to their inability to move ، Thisproject aims to develop a passive tilting mechanism using Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) springs that respond to thermal stimuli without requiring external power or motors. The goal is to s the most suitable SMA due to its high responsiveness, low weight, and durability, offerienhance signal reception by enabling slight dish adjustments based on temperature changes. Through theoretical analysis and material comparison, the NiTi-CFRP Hybrid was identified ang an efficient and reliable solution for improving telescope performance.
01
The Beginning
The idea started from the limitation of Fixed Radio Telescopes in tracking signals because they cannot move. We proposed using temperature changes to slightly adjust the Dish.
02
The Idea
The project provides a Passive Tilting Mechanism using SMA Springs to improve signal reception without Motors or External Power.
03
The Experience
We started with the concept of using SMA Springs to respond to temperature changes. We then compared different materials through Theoretical Analysis, selecting NiTi-CFRP Hybrid for its low weight, responsiveness, and durability.
