Project Idea
This project addresses the challenge of electromagnetic interferenceaffecting the Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) in radio telescopes, particularly hielding solution inspired by the geometry of heart stents, using aluminwhen detecting weak signals like the 21.1 cm hydrogen line. We propose a sum mesh with rhombus-shaped openings. The shield was implemented in cuboid structures with two tested variations: 1 cm and 0.5 signal clarity. The design achieves a balance between electromacm openings. Theoretical calculations were conducted to evaluate shielding effectiveness. Results showed that reducing the opening size improved shielding by approximately 6 dB, significantly enhancin ggnetic protection, mechanical strength, and ease of fabrication, making it suitable for sensitive, high-precision systems.
01
The Beginning
The idea started from the problem of EMI affecting the LNA and making weak signals difficult to detect. We therefore explored an effective Shielding design inspired by Heart Stents.
02
The Idea
The project provides an Aluminum Mesh Shield with Rhombus-shaped openings to reduce EMI and improve signal clarity, achieving approximately 6 dB better shielding with smaller openings.
03
The Experience
We started with a Shielding concept inspired by Heart Stents, then designed a Cuboid Shield using Aluminum Mesh and tested 1 cm and 0.5 cm openings. Theoretical Calculations were then used to compare the shielding effectiveness.
